★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 以前から古墳でないかと議論されていたが、最近の発掘調査で出土した土器片からほぼ古墳であることが確定した。
墳頂は、150~168mとの前方後円墳と推測されており、これは東北最大の前方後円墳「雷神山古墳(168m)」のスケールに匹敵する。
城館の建設や宅地開発などによって墳形が改変されてしまっているものの、破壊は間逃れた。
