妙法寺は山名美作守忠政が鶴山柳の段に妙王院を創建（1440年頃）したことに始まる。1570年頃中興法恩院日充上人が妙王院を妙法寺と改称する。森忠政が美作に入り（1603年）築城地を鶴山に決定した。これに伴い妙法寺を南新座へ移した。その後、城下町造営の拡大に伴って、西寺町の現在地に移った（1617年）。

Myohoji Temple begins when Mimasaka Mori Tadamasa founded Myo-in Temple on the stage of Tsuruyama Yanagi (around 1440). Around 1570, Myo-in Temple was renamed Myohoji Temple by the Nisshojin of the Chuko Hoonin. Tadamasa Mori entered Mimasaka (1603) and decided to build the castle on Tsuruyama. Along with this, Myohoji was moved to Minamishinza. After that, with the expansion of the castle town construction, it moved to the present location of Nishiteramachi (1617).
