Raised from mulberry, mitsumata, and materials, traditional crafts of Miyama Washi, which convey the old-fashioned manufacturing method in this area to the present, have a strong, supple texture, and produce a form and dignity in the color of the digitally produced printer. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a center dedicated to preserving the papermaking traditions of the area. There was only one staff member there when we visited, and she seemed busy at work, so didn't get much chance to learn about the history. There was a small gift shop with a variety of high-quality paper, notably types dyed with or containing bits of safflower. It seems they offer papermaking workshops too. Quite a bit out in the countryside, but it's a beautiful area to explore and get lost in.
