看板から―― 坊山石造物群昭和５６年（１９８１）月、町道工事中に土中から発見された大量の石造物群。五輪塔、宝篋印塔、層塔・一石五輪塔などの石造物の部材からなり、元の形状が確認できるものだけでも２５９点を数える。使用されている石材は、愛媛県産の①凝灰岩、大分県産の②阿蘇溶結凝灰岩と③角閃石安山岩、中国地方の④花崗岩、香川県産の⑤凝灰角礫岩と⑥火山礫凝灰岩、山口地方産の⑦角閃石安山岩、⑧砂岩と、西日本各地の８種類の石材が確認できる。１３世紀末～１７世紀初頭にかけて制作されたものが、断続的にこの地にもたらされたとみられる。１ヶ所で確認される石造物としては、他に類を見ない物量と多様さがあり、数百年にわたって、この地域に相当規模の集落と海を通じた幅広い交流があったことを想像させずにはおれない。中世の三崎の繁栄を現代に伝える貴重な歴史遺産である。

The masonry found in one place has an unparalleled amount and variety, and it's hard to imagine that for hundreds of years, there was a considerable amount of settlement and extensive exchange through the sea in this area.
