Almost all of the eldest sons have been trimmed since the mother, who used to be trimmed alone, collapsed under the arachnoid. The mother is so energetic that she does not feel any sequelae, she sweeps the outside, welcomes guests warmly, and when she leaves, she goes out and waves her hand forever. As everyone else has written, there is plenty of rice. Homemade rice and side dishes for local production for local consumption according to the mother's recipe. The salt-grilled sweetfish with children was excellent. The miso soup with lots of breakfast ingredients was also very delicious. Especially because I saw my son taking soup stock by boiling it in the evening. Since it is a 350-year-old house, drafts blow here and there. The bathtub is very old with a full bathtub if you take one person. It is neither a restroom nor a washlet, and like a bath, it is shared by the family and all guests. You can rent a washing machine, but there is no dryer. But I wonder if it's a farmhouse inn. Please be prepared for it. On a clear night, you will see a sky full of stars that are hard to see in the city. You can also hear stories about old villages from your mother. At the time of farewell, he always waved his hand until he disappeared. If you read this and decided to stay at Mandokoro, have a good trip. PS: A recorded program featuring Mr. Mandokoro will be played during the meal.

A guest house located in Imoze, Totsukawa-mura, between Mt. Obako and Miura Pass. 8500 yen per night. It is similar to a private lodging, and you can stay in an ordinary Japanese-style room, and the toilets and baths are also for home use. For meals, everyone will be around the desk. It is open for two people, a grandma and a son, but it was an inn where you can feel as if you were returning home to a relative's house in the countryside. The main building is a wooden one-story building built in 1725, and the front gate was built in 1853, making it a tangible cultural property designated by the prefecture. At Miuraguchi, there are only two inns, this government office and Yamamoto, and in many cases you cannot get an inn, so I think that many people stay in tents at Miura Pass, but the former Imoze, which is adjacent to this inn, You can stay in a tent even in elementary school. Perhaps it was tolerated, but in addition to the schoolyard, there was space under the passageway and the eaves of the gymnasium, and toilets were also available.

Minshuku Mandokoro is a wonderful place because of its owners. The old grandmother and her son are both very kind and sweet. I was going to be stranded at their place as the next day was forecasted to be raining and unsafe to walk on the Obako toge. There was no public transport available to get to Omata. They send me to my next place of stay by car, driving a whole 2hrs to get there and then they have got to drive themselves back...I will never forget their kindness.

Our 3rd stay of Kumano Kodo Kohechi hike from Koyasan. Owned by a cute and funny old lady and her son. Plenty of food, heartwarming hospitality, great neighborhood. What a real Japanese countryside life! I felt like I was staying with grandma’s in Nara. It’s more of like a home stay than hotel stay or hostel stay. They have Wi-Fi from the neighboring elementary school and there’s only one vending machine in about 10 minutes walking distance. No convenience stores and shops around. It gets really dark at night which makes stars more shiny than any other places in Japan. Such a beautiful place. They feed you with plenty of food and you’ll never want more food even after a whole day hike! Everything is organic and locally produced. And the son is a chiropractor so he knows how to massage to reduce muscle pain from the hike. The only downside of this stay is you need to share bathroom and toilet with them and I can’t say it’s clean enough to welcome visitors....but other than that it was a great experience overall!
