高さ５ｍ４５cmで、亀趺と屋根の部分を合わせると７ｍを越える神社の碑石としては、国内最大のもので、そこに、１９４３文字で保科正之公の履歴を刻んであり、一見の価値はあります。
二代将軍秀忠の子として、また後の三代将軍家光の弟として出生した所から、官位や官職の遍歴、上洛の記録などが、山崎閔斎が撰文し、土佐左兵衞高傭が書したもの。
ちなみに、台座にあたる『亀趺』は、当初南向きに置かれたが、亀が一夜にして猪苗代湖まで逃げてしまい、その為に北向きに置かれていると云う。
また、通常亀は前指五本、後指四本であるが、この亀趺の亀は、前指四本、後指五本で、通常とは逆なのは、逃げたからなのかもしれない。
