★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 波波迦の木とは朱桜、ウワミズザクラ等の名前で呼ばれているが、よく似た桜にイヌザクラがある。葉っぱと咲き方に違いがあるが、どちらも毛虫の様な形の花が咲く。ウワミズザクラは咲いた花の下の茎に４～５枚の葉が付くがイヌザクラは枝から咲いて下には葉が付かない。

波波迦の木は神話の世界にも登場する。天の岩屋戸に籠った天照大御神を誘い出す策をこの波波迦の木と真男鹿の肩の骨で占ったのだという。そういった神話の世界からの伝統が大嘗祭にも続いているとは驚きである。
The wave tree is called by the names such as Zhu Sakura and Uwamizuzakura, but there is Inuzakura as a similar cherry tree. There is a difference between the leaves and the way they bloom, but both have caterpillar-like flowers. Prunus grayana has 4 to 5 leaves on the stem under the bloomed flower, but Inuzakura blooms from the branch and has no leaves underneath.

The wave tree also appears in the mythical world. It is said that the plan to lure Amaterasu Omikami, who was trapped in Amano-iwato, was foreseen with this wave-wave tree and the shoulder bones of the true Oga. It is surprising that the tradition from such a mythical world continues in Daijosai.

平成、令和の大嘗祭において、斎田を卜占するためにこちらの波波迦の木が献進されたことを記す石碑が建立されている。

At the Daijosai in Reiwa in Heisei, a stone monument was erected to mark that this wave-wave tree was donated to occupy Saita.
