後三年合戦で消失した豊田館は、清衡により再び江刺に建てられました、その館を再現したのが清衡館(第二期豊田館)。寝殿を中心に東・北・西の対屋を渡殿で結び、寝殿の床を高くし丸柱を使うなど、寝殿造初期の様式が取り入れられています。清衡は、平泉に進出するまでこの館に居住したといわれる。
