★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 一階は普通の公民館。二階は旧議事堂となっているが、正直床板以外はほぼ改築されていて、過去を偲ぶ面影はほぼなし。
広い駐車場があるので、周辺の散策拠点には最適。
The first floor is an ordinary public hall. The second floor is an old parliament building, but honestly it has been renovated except for the floorboard, and there is almost no image of the past.
There is a large parking lot, so it's a great base for walking around.

長沼孝三彫塑館や丸大扇屋に行く場合も小桜館をカーナビにセットした方が迷いづらいと思います。駐車場も広くて空いています。
文明開化の旗印のような建築物で改装はされていますが当時のままの場所に残っています。
同じような目的の擬洋風建築として山形市の旧済生館本館、天童市の旧東村山郡役所、寒河江市の旧西村山郡役所、鶴岡市の旧西田川郡役所などが郷土資料館として運営されていますが、どれも復元や移築がされています。三島通庸の凄さが伺えます。

県も市も素晴らしいですね。

案内していただきました。この建物は壊すときに、貴重な建物だから残したい！けどお金がないから知恵を絞った結果、公民館的な形で残そう！という経緯のある建物です。そのため、色々と当時と違う改造が施されています。
古い建物が見たい方は物足りないですが(当時の形と違うところが多いため)、そうした経緯を踏まえるとまた趣を感じる建物でした。
二階に登ると一部当時のステンドグラスが残されていて素敵です。その二階に違和感を感じる扉が有ります。あと天井も不思議な形です。
