昭和3年8月に崩壊した小諸発電所第一調整池の遺構。全国でも8基しか建造されなかったバットレスダムのひとつ。現在は砂吐ゲート跡と遮水壁の一部を見ることができる。現在,貯水池の跡は南城公園となりマレットゴルフ場・プール・野球場の一部がつくられている。マレットゴルフ場とプールの間にある暗渠水路は現役で第二調整池へ送水しているらしい。昭和3年10月に発行された『土木建築工事画報』によれば堰堤左端山腹に接するところから10間(1径2間5径間)陥落,それに伴い第六径間も破損とあるので約20メートル崩壊したようだ。堰堤のほかにコンクリート擁壁も部分破損している。原因は堰堤地中下部にある火山灰層特有な地下水の貯水袋の陥没と言われている。この崩壊事故により5名の犠牲者が出ている。負の遺産ではあるが貴重な遺構だと思うので良好な状態で保存していただきたい。

According to the "Public Works Construction Pictorials" published in October 1934, there was a fall of 10 (1 to 2 to 5) from the point of contact with the hillside on the left edge of the dam, and the 6th span was also damaged. It seems to have collapsed for about 20 meters. In addition to the dam, the concrete retaining wall is also partially damaged. The cause is said to be the depression of the groundwater reservoir peculiar to the volcanic ash layer in the lower part of the dam. Five people have been killed in the collapse. It is a negative heritage, but I think it is a valuable remains, so please save it in good condition.
