★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 一番上の四枚ほどを除いて、おそらくすでに数年以上は耕作放棄されているであろう状態になっていました。いまはもうただ段々の草むらです。集落からも少し離れ、耕作の維持は本当に大変なのでしょう、残念ですが、仕方のないことなのだと思います。集落の方にも十枚ほど棚田はありましたが、茶畑になっているところもあったり、ここも上の方は完全に草むらになっていました。代々受け継がれてきた伝統はとても大切なものですが、それに根ざす人々の生活があってこそのもの、世の中の変化、耕作者の高齢化、集落の過疎化と、年々棚田を取り巻く環境は厳しさを増していきます。思い切った観光化に踏み切って成功したところもありますが、すべての棚田でそれが可能なわけではないでしょう。現状、外から見に来るだけの私のような者にもなにかできることがあればいいのですが...

The tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation is very important, but the life of people rooted in it is the very thing, the changes in the world, the aging of farmers, the depopulation of villages, and the environment surrounding rice terraces is becoming more and more difficult year by year. I will continue. Some have succeeded in making bold tourism efforts, but not all rice terraces will be able to do so. At the moment, it would be nice if someone like me who just came to see me could do something...
