清めの塩を盛られていてお地蔵様の本体は隠れてしまっています。

２体で１組のお地蔵様です。
お地蔵さまの体に塩をつけてお祈りすると体の同じ部分の病気が治るといわれています。

塩は清めに用いられてきたという習慣による物ですが、これは海に近い江戸の町ならではの習慣だと思います。
さすがに山の中では塩は貴重ですし、貴重な半面、植物を枯らし、岩石も風化させる厄介な存在でありますから…。
しかし、仏教寺院で他に塩を用いる事はあまりなく、どちらかというと神仏習合の内神道の習慣だと思います。
例えば、土俵に塩を撒く相撲の土俵があるのは、神社が中心で、土俵を持つお寺は寡聞にして知りません。
こうした民間信仰に神仏習合の面影が見られるのは、とても興味深いと思います。
[塩地蔵尊]
当山開創寛永元年(1624年)以前よりこの地にあって人々の信仰を集めたと伝えられる。
地蔵尊のお身体に塩を盛ってお参りすることから塩地蔵と称し、その由来には、古来より塩は清めとして用いられることにより、参詣者の身体健康を祈願するものと説かれる。
