昭和24-54（1948-1979）年の間、ここソフィア西新井と、隣接する江北四丁目第三児童遊園の敷地一帯には、全国的にも珍しかった企業付属高校がありました。スタンダード高等学校。創設者は、興野地区に本社があった日本最大の靴メーカーのスタンダード靴株式会社（大正13-平成15（1924-2003）年）です。本来は即戦力を確保するための正に「企業付属高校」ではありましたが、地域の教育に少なからず影響を与えたといいます。スタンダード靴（株）は、興野図書館や住宅街に変わり、ささやかな名残だった「スタンダード前」バス停留所も改称されて、この学校跡地を含めてその痕跡を探すのは困難となりました。学校跡地と知ってか知らずか、今では、目の前の江北駅を利用する高校生が往き来しています。
