★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 後鳥羽上皇が熊野詣をされた時に、昼休みをここでしたと伝わる。本尊十一面観音出現縁起に昔一人の修行僧が念仏三昧に余念なきところ、ある夜西の海から風をともなった雷雨が襲来し、また妙なる楽の音や金色の光が差し、僧はひたすら礼拝していると貝に乗った十一面観音が御出川（見出川）をさかのぼって来現したという。
