★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 駅を降りたら(たしか北口)ベルマートの喫煙所からの排煙がくさい。
一度、受動喫煙の酷さで新聞に掲載されたが、刈谷市は近くにもっと大きな喫煙所をつくり、一帯がたばこ臭い(コンコースにも流れてくる)。反省なし。
時刻通りに運行するほうが珍しい。またかよって感じ。列車を遅らせたら法外な金をとられるが、列車が遅れてもちょっと謝るだけ。

名古屋や豊橋方面に行くには、JRの方が便利ですね。
刈谷駅周辺は、大手の自動車会社の関連企業があり、また学校もあるから、名鉄、JR共に利用者はかなり多いです!
双方の鉄道会社は、乗り換えする時は、一旦それぞれの改札口を出て、またもう一方の鉄道の改札口を入り直す必要があります。
名鉄は各駅停車の列車のみが運転しています。
JRは、全ての旅客列車が停まります。
この駅を通る東海道本線の列車は、特急は無く、朝夕の特別快速と終日運転されている新快速、快速があり、その全てが停まります。
また、上下ホームには追い越し設備があるので、各駅停車の普通電車が、速達列車の各快速を待避しています。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ JR名古屋駅でJR刈谷駅までの切符を買い、領収証を発行して乗車。乗車後に紛失し、領収証を提示し紛失の事を伝えたが、再度名古屋駅から刈谷駅までの切符代を払うよう言われ、やむなく支払った。
後日ネットで調べてわかった再収受領証明について、一切教えてもらえなかった。
非常に不親切なJR刈谷駅職員でした。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ JRと名鉄両方の乗り換えができる総合駅ですね。三河地方でもかなり賑わいのある刈谷市なので、それにふさわしい駅になってると思うなー。高架の通路をテクテク歩いてゆくと本屋やスーパーが入ってるショッピングモール「みなくる刈谷」へ繋がっています。何度もこの通路は通ったな。
It's a general station where you can transfer to both JR and Meitetsu. Kariya city is quite busy in the Mikawa region, so I think it will be a suitable station. A tech-tech walk along the elevated passage leads to the shopping mall "Minakuru Kariya", which houses a bookstore and supermarket. I have passed this passage many times.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ JR東海道線と名鉄三河線の接続駅です。JRは新快速が停まりますが、名鉄側は単線で15分に一本の普通列車しか来ません。
改札は2階、名鉄とJRは別々で、中に乗換口なし。
駅ビルはJR側1階にBellmart、2階にJR東海ツアーズ、名鉄側1階に居酒屋、2階にドトールなどがあり、軽く時間を潰すならドトールですがそれなりに混んでいることが多いです。
お昼を食べるなら名鉄側出て左手のブリッジを通り下に降りるとサイゼリヤがあります。スーパーのバローともブリッジで繋がっています。
JR側、名鉄側それぞれにロータリーがあり少し歩けば有料駐車場はあります。天候の悪い日は送迎車で混みがち。周辺道路に一方通行多めなので車で来るときは要注意。
It is a connecting station between the JR Tokaido Line and the Meitetsu Mikawa Line. The special rapid service stops at JR, but on the Meitetsu side, only one regular train arrives every 15 minutes on a single track.
The ticket gate is on the 2nd floor, Meitetsu and JR are separate, and there is no transfer gate inside.
The station building has Bellmart on the 1st floor on the JR side, JR Tokai Tours on the 2nd floor, an izakaya on the 1st floor on the Meitetsu side, and a dotor on the 2nd floor.
If you want to eat lunch, go out on the Meitetsu side, go down the bridge on your left, and you will find Saizeriya. It is also connected to the supermarket Barrow by a bridge.
There are rotary on the JR side and Meitetsu side, and there is a pay parking lot if you walk a little. When the weather is bad, it tends to be crowded with shuttle cars. Be careful when coming by car as there are many one-way streets on the surrounding roads.
