It is one of the five great mountain castles in Japan, a castle with a thousand Kuruwa, the originator of the total stone wall, and many other popular mountain castles, which I also love.
There aren't a thousand Kuruwa, but there are certainly a lot of them, and it seems that the residences of senior vassals and subordinates were crowded in the Kuruwa on the south side to protect the main enclosure and lived there.
There are few moats, earthworks, tiger mouths, etc. and the defense power is weak, but the curving ring of a large number of subordinates may have been the defense function.
It seems that the other directions were protected by steep cliffs and branch castles, but it seems that the castle was taken and regained many times without going to the siege.
Genji Sasaki Rokkaku's castle has a long history and was a considerable influential person in the early Warring States period after the Onin War, but he lost to the battle of Norada due to the rebellion of Nagamasa Asai, who was under his control, and declined. Further declined due to the assassination of
There are various ways to climb the castle, but if you have the time and energy to walk from the stone temple below, there are forest roads and Kuwanomidera courses that you can pay by car. From the Azuchi side, we recommend Kannonshoji on the forest road from the back of Nobunaga no Yakata. However, it is closed in winter and cannot be used. From the Kuwanomidera side on the Azuchi side, it does not cost money on the forest road, but it seems that there is an entrance fee, is it the back side of the castle? I don't recommend it very much because it will be, the forest road (600 yen) of Kannonshoji from the Higashiomi side is good in winter
The forest road will close at 4:30 pm, so let's calculate back so that we can return by then (2 hours if you want to see Oishigaki and return, and if you want to see the Kuruwa further ahead, you need more time)
This is my second visit in a few years, too, and I was too busy at Azuchi Castle for only an hour and a half, and I returned with a short run to Oishigaki.
The road maintenance is not good and there are many information boards, but it is difficult to understand, so if you do not visit with a territory map, it will be wide and you will get lost or miss various things, so please be careful, I read the pamphlet at the Azuchi Castle Archaeological Museum Use
It may be grass bobo in the summer, so it's hot and should be avoided
I will guide you lightly with a photo
Mid-February 3rd year of Reiwa
There was a slight mistake in the forest road guidance, so I posted it again in April.

I went to visit 100 famous castles in Japan.
The road is not paved as shown in the photo, so it is better to wear proper shoes and dress ○ ?
Also, if you step off, you may endanger your life, so it seems better to attack carefully.
I went alone, but it is better to go with two or more people if possible. It was early in the morning, but no one was there. It was like a light mountain climbing.
But when I climbed up, I felt very comfortable.
Visit date and time 2020,12,2
It seems that an additional entrance fee of 500 yen will be charged.
It was free because I was early in the morning.

If you park at the Kannonshoji parking lot (600 yen), you can easily reach the Kannonji Castle Honmaru Ruins and Sasaki Castle Ruins. The territory including the stone wall is magnificent. If the mountain trails are improved a little more, I think that even small children can walk safely.

If you want to climb easily in about two hours, enter from National Highway No. 8 and pay 600 yen for forest road → 500 yen for Kannonshoji Temple → Honmaru, Kuruwa, Oishigaki. However, there are few parking lots at Kannonshoji Temple, so it is recommended to go by around 9 am.
There are quite a few stairs from the parking lot to Kannonshoji Temple, but there is no problem because they are well maintained. After leaving Kannonshoji Temple, it is a level that can not be reached by walking recognition on a decent mountain road. Moreover, it is wide. When I asked for directions at the entrance of Kannonshoji Temple in advance, I was grateful that I received the map, but I might have been a little worried if I didn't have it.
There are few information boards as a whole. However, there were several groups between Kannonshoji Temple and Oishigaki, and they said, "Are you here? 』I can talk like that, and there are always people coming and going, so the road is ready, so if you are accustomed to Yamashiro, it's okay.
There is no guidance such as Horikiri or Koguchi. There was only a ghost (something like a mansion).
As everyone says, it's okay if Yamashiro of this scale and name is better maintained.
However, the view from Oishigaki is overwhelming. I was able to experience the spaciousness and the view, and I was full with that alone. satisfaction.

Bypass 600 yen, entrance fee 500 yen, a little higher ...
There is a cobblestone staircase to Kannonshoji Temple, but after that you will be climbing, so please be careful about your feet.
Impressions: To be honest, it's too wide! !!
Certainly, if it is so wide, it cannot be protected.
I was convinced that the number of fallen castles was high.

No. 52 of the 100 Fine Castles of Japan
One of the five great mountain castles in Japan. It seems that it was made at the end of the Kamakura period. Yamashiro at an altitude of 432.9m.
If you are walking from the nearest Azuchi station, the shortest route is via Kuwanomidera (but I was prepared for Kuwanomidera because there are quite a few stairs). A healthy adult will be able to reach the summit in about 60-80 minutes.
If you want to relax, you can drive to the eastern pursuit road in about 20 minutes to reach the summit.
The highlight is the stone wall. Oishigaki looks natural if you climb from the pursuit road, but if you come from the opposite side, you need to look back and it is difficult to understand. There are also quite a few stairs on the Kanonji side.

I climbed from the Kuwanomi-ji side, which is the home of Rokkaku.
An amateur like me couldn't see the boundary between the remains of the castle and the remains of the temple, but the tiger mouth, the well, the buried gate, and the stone wall remain wonderfully. The castle area is so vast that you may not be able to see it all in one visit. I myself have overlooked it here and there and need to revisit it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Kannon Shoji Temple is the 32nd temple on the famous Saigoku Kannon pilgrimage in kansai region. The temple is located in the east of Biwa Lake in Azuchi-cho of Omihachiman City in Shiga Prefecture. According to the legend, the temple was established when Japan's very 1st emperor Shotoku Taishi visited here and curved out Senjyu Kannon Statue. Within its precincts is a statue of Shotoku Taishi looking over the view of Lake Biwa. The temple is built on the hill side of Mt. Kinugasa which is 370 meters above the sea level. Unfortunately the temple hall was burned down by an accident in 1993 and the entire structure of its main hall was rebuilt as well as its Kannon statue. Right next to the temple is a remain of great Sasaki Castle which was regarded as one of the 5 biggest mountain castles in Japan once belonged to Rokkaku Sasaki who was lost in war against Oda Nobunaga.
