They is both a large statue you can enter as well as a small garden and temple with many historic items, specially small wood and store carved statues. However, many of the neighboring shops and cafes in front of the grounds have closed up. Many of those business owners have retired and still own their properties.

Since the tsunami, alot of the businesses have closed, making this village more like a ghost town. I've been coming here since I was nine...The statue is still as beautiful as it was in the beginning and if you like buddism, you'll appreciate the walk to the top.

I’ve been here in April so normally that’s the summer schedule but it close at 15:00 or maybe that’s the last entry not sure and i arrived at 15:01 so.. Like everything in Japan it closed too early. But you should have a great view on the bay so it would be nice
R	Robin Spooner on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It’s a really beautiful place, I think I just wasn’t feeling it. 300¥ for the parking lot at the top (there’s free parking a bit below). 500¥ to enter. There’s a small English brochure they give you at the beginning, but it doesn’t have much detail.

You can climb stairs inside for a beautiful view from the top - along the way there are things to see (and I am forgetting what they are called but will fix in a future edit) and it is well worth an hour of your time.
