★ ★ ★ ★ ★ この寺の正式名称は、飯縄山 常光寺であり、西暦１６４５年、日名の豪族、飯縄院殿輝山常光大居士により、飯縄山の西麓に創建された。名前の通り飯縄山と関わりが深く、飯縄山飯縄神社の前院、飯縄神社は奥の院と言われていたと言う。当時は、非常に規模の大きい立派な寺院だったというが、明治３８年に出火全焼し現在はその一部のみが再建されているのみである。出火した時期が丁度、飯縄神社が潰された時期と重なっているため、ひょっとすると国家神道を推進する何者かに放火されたのかもしれない。

At that time, it was a very large and splendid temple, but it was destroyed by fire in 1907 and only a part of it has been rebuilt. Since the time when the fire broke out coincided with the time when the Iinawa Shrine was destroyed, it may have been ignited by someone who promoted National Shinto.
