★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 船頭重吉が建てた供養碑のあるお寺です。船頭重吉は船が難破して十七ヶ月(！)もの長い間、太平洋を漂流した後に、イギリスの船に助けらて無事日本に生還したという数奇な運命を辿った人です。後に尾張藩によって士分に取り立てられるのですが、海で死んだ仲間の供養のために武士の身分を捨て、お金を貯めて供養碑を建立したのでした。
死んだ仲間のために供養碑を建立したところに重吉の人柄が偲ばれます。それにしても、名古屋にもジョン万次郎のような経験をした人がいたのですね。驚きました。
It is a temple with a memorial monument built by the boatman Shigekichi. Shigekichi Funato is a man who had a strange fate that he survived to Japan safely with the help of a British ship after drifting in the Pacific Ocean for as long as 17 months (!) After the ship was wrecked. Later, it was collected by the Owari clan as a samurai, but he abandoned his status as a samurai for the memorial service of his friends who died in the sea, saved money and built a memorial monument.
Shigekichi's personality is remembered when a memorial monument was erected for his dead companions. Even so, there was a person in Nagoya who had an experience like John Manjiro. I was surprised.
