水神社の祭神は、美都波能売(ミヅハノメ)であり、日本における代表的な水神の一つであります。
古事記におきましては、神産みの段において、カグツチを産んで陰部を火傷して苦しんでいたイザナミがした尿からワクムスビと共に生まれたとしています。
日本書紀では、イザナミが死ぬ間際にハニヤマヒメと共に生まれています。
厳島神社の祭神は宗像三女神といい、イチキシマヒメ、タキリビメ、タギツヒメの三柱の女神となります。
記紀において、アマテラスとスサノオの誓約で生まれた女神で、海上交通の安全の祈願、ひいては交通安全などを祈願する女神であります。
いずれも水とかかわりの深い神様を祀っており、参道で桃園川の流れを再現している当社らしい祭神かと思います。

A goddess born from the pledge of Amaterasu and Susanoo in Kiki, she is a goddess who prays for the safety of maritime traffic, and eventually for traffic safety.
