こことは関係ないですが、この神社前の道を上越線の踏切まで５０メートルほど下っていくと、踏切前に武田鉄矢主演の８７年の刑事物語５・やまびこの詩の劇中で鈴木保奈美と賀来千賀子演じる姉妹が住んでいたアパートとしてロケされた建物があります。刑事物語シリーズファンには聖地指定です。

厳島神社は、北に「みなかみ町立古馬牧小学校」があり、西には「後閑集落センター」があります。西側に地域集落があり、その集落の更に西に利根川が流れています。利根川を境に西側がみなかみ町月夜野で、利根川の東側がみなかみ町後閑になります。神社より南東側は広い農地になっています。「古馬牧小学校」を越えて更に東に「明徳禅寺」があり、その後方の山に入ると「みなかみ町指定史跡明徳寺城址」があります。神社は石製の台輪鳥居と木製の社殿のみの構成で、拝殿や本殿覆屋は無いですが、社殿周囲は堀に囲まれていて石橋が渡されており、厳島神社らしい立地となっています。堀には水は見えませんでしたが、堀の中いっぱいに「黄菖蒲」の花が咲いていました。明徳寺城は、南北朝時代、会津の葦名氏の来攻に備えて荘田城の沼田氏が築いた天神山砦を改築したものと考えられています。明徳年間（1390～1394）僧の松庵が城郭の下に明徳寺を開山したことから、現在の名称で呼ばれています。天正十八年（1589）豊臣秀吉の「小田原征伐」後に廃城となりました。現在城址には土塁などの遺構を確認することができます。（現地明徳寺城址案内板より）

Meitokuji Castle is considered to be a reconstruction of the Tenjinzan Pass, built by Mr. Numata of Souda Castle, in preparation for the visit of Mr. Haruna of Aizu during the North-South morning. It is called by its current name, since Matsumoto Matsukage, a monk from 1390 to 1394, opened Myotoku-ji Temple under the castle.
