Great little store with a lot of history and high quality Japanese made tools. The owners were very helpful and spoke enough English to help with my purchases. I will be going back on my next trip and would highly recommend to others.

Kind gentleman spoke to me in some detail about the chisels I was interested in and reccomend less expensive products he had in the back of the shop to match my hobby-level skill. Was nice enough to give me a carrying pouch for the 3 chisels I bought to help pack and transport them. Very nice shop with some seriously gorgeous tools and small products that the owner makes himself. His hours are not regular so call ahead unless you happen to have a lot of luck. Impossible to miss it if it is open when you walk past.

Awesome little shop. The owner and his wife were very kind. And spoke enough English to help me out. I only picked up one chisel to start but will be going back before finally leaving Japan to buy a couple more things. Can't wait to get home and use my new tools.

I concur with other reviews - a lovely little shop with a welcoming and helpful owner who speaks just about enough English to help non-Japanese speaking customers. Beautiful tools - the handmade ones are quite expensive, though Inoue does stock some cheaper machine made alternatives for some tools. It's also a lovely shop to visit even if you just want to see what a niche Japanese shop is like. Note that the shop doesn't have a sign outside, and no website, so check out the helpful photo of the shop on google maps. When I arrived it was hard to know if it was open as there was no one inside, so I just tried the doors. Well worth a visit.

It's a small shop, but the biggest dedicated woodworking tool shop I've been to in Japan. Great selections of high quality tools. The owner and his wife was wonderful, they also spoke English and answered all my questions. It was very welcoming being there. I had a wonderful time looking around.

My boyfriend and I just visited this shop. We are visiting Tokyo from NY and we are so glad we came here. Inoue and his wife were very kind and knowledgeable and all of their products were quality and beautiful- it was so difficult to decide on what to buy. We will have to come back next time to buy more. Thank you, Inoue!

Are you looking for Japanese chisels/planes/hammers or saws? This is the place to get them. Prices range from moderate to expensive, depending on the quality you are looking for, of course. Inoue-san is so kind and knowledgeable! He speaks a bit of English and gives precious advice on what to buy, he doesn't try to push for the high-end pieces at all, though he does have such good quality in his shop you'd be surprised. It's so easy to get there, just 40 minutes from downtown Tokyo by subway (Toei Oedo Line). I only regret not being more proficient at speaking Japanese, I would have loved to ask him a lot more questions!

Finally found a great woodwork tool shop on my last day in Japan. Small shop with beautiful handmade Japanese woodwork tools. The people at my hostile called ahead to make sure they would be open. The owner and his wife were very friendly and helpful. He was able to answer all questions and make some recommendations. Thankfully he spoke some English because my Japanese is week at best. Some of the kanna (Japanese hand planes) ranged up as high as 28,000 yen. I bought one for 11,800. I also bought a small chisel (nomi) and hammer (gennoh) in order to set the blade. Finally I picked up two water stones that he recommended for sharpening. Great experience and a souvenir that I will enjoy using for many years.
