承応3年（1654）、中国から渡日した隠元隆琦禅師が、本山である京都・黄檗山萬福寺の第2代木庵性滔和尚の弟子、慧極道明和尚によって天和3年（1683）に再勧請開山されたのが起源です。
尼崎藩士で、小浜（宝塚市）奉行の伊東祐之公が、寛文元年（1661）に慈雲山普門禅寺の隠元隆琦禅師について禅宗の教理を勉学し、「知足軒正和居士」の法名を賜りました。
伊東祐之公は新田中野村に寺院を建立しようと、木庵性滔和尚の弟子石鼎道逸和尚に相談し、石鼎道逸和尚は天和2年（1682）、師匠の木庵性滔和尚に、寺院開山の勧請をしました。
その後、すぐに同意が出て法雄山常休禅寺が開山されました。

Yuyuki Ito consulted with Sekitei Hara's disciple Sekitei Hara to build a temple in Nitta Nakanomura, and Sekitei Hara became his master Sekitei Hara in 1682. , I solicited the opening of a temple.
Immediately after that, consent was given and Hooyama Tokikyu Zenji was opened.
