中世岩城領の西の防衛を任された上遠野氏。調査によりいくつかの遺構が確認されたが城というよりは砦ぐらいの規模しかない。井戸跡らしいのが確認されたが山頂では疑問が残る。山頂のみの狭い郭では大人数では立てこもりは無理。防衛遺構も貧弱で大軍で攻められたらひとたまりもない。援軍が来るまで持ち堪える規模にしかない。地元の町おこしで整備されたが一般見学出来る様な補助整備がなされていないのが残念。山城マニアしか期待出来ない。

※駐車場は上遠野公民館を使用してください。グーグルマップの指示だと小中学校に連れてかれて少し恥ずかしいです。上遠野氏（元は小山氏の一族）が源頼朝の奥州攻めに参加したあとにこの一帯を与えられ、その際には日ノ澤城（入遠野）を築いたとされている。上遠野は入遠野の南側にあるが、この城は入遠野の盆地の北の山にあり南の要害として使用したのだろう。常時で使うにはあまりにも便が悪い。山一体が城のようなもので連郭のようである。主郭部が一括にされているが南の展望の郭も混ぜて3つ独立郭としてあるように見えた。上遠野公民館から時計回りに一周したが（パンフレットにもそう書いてある）公民館側の道はほぼ登山道である。むき出しの岩場を設置されているロープを使い登るのだがなかなか高低差がありちゃんとした格好、靴で行かなければ辛いだろう。東にある八幡神社方面からのほうが緩やかなので不安な人はそちらから回るべきだと思う。

I went around clockwise from the Kamitono public hall (as written in the pamphlet), but the road on the public hall side is almost a mountain trail. I climb using a rope with bare rocks, but there is a difference in elevation, and it will be difficult if I don't wear shoes. It's more gradual from the direction of Hachiman Shrine in the east, so I think people who are uneasy should go there.
