It was built in the 8th year of Keicho (1608) as a thank-you prayer for Hidetada Tokugawa's illness and a prayer for Nagahisa Budo, the second shogun of the Edo Shogunate. It is the oldest miracle five-storied pagoda in the Kanto region that did not collapse even after the Great Kanto Earthquake and survived the air raids of the war. It is a nationally designated important cultural property.

A moss called Scopelophila catharsis grows naturally on the pedestal on the north side of this five-storied pagoda, and it was first discovered here in Japan, so it was named like this.

Ikegami Honmonji is the temple of Yamagami donated by the Sochu and Socho brothers when the Nichiren saint was heading to Hitachi-no-Yu for medical treatment and he became ill and stayed at Ikegami Munenaka's mansion. It is said that it started even though it was named and held a memorial service for the opening of the hall. The five-storied pagoda was built in 1607 by Hidetada Tokugawa, the second shogun of the Edo Shogunate, at the request of the Nanny Oka Department, and is considered to be the oldest existing five-storied pagoda in the Kanto region. Only the first layer is Japanese-like, and two or more layers are Tang-like, and there are features such as a small rate of decrease to the upper layer and a short sorin length. Along with the treasure tower, it is a tower that represents the ancient temple Ikegami Honmonji Temple and is also a landmark of the region.
