C	Charles Ayre on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I have been digging for, collecting and dealing in vinyl records for the best part of 15 years. HMV Shibuya is one of the vinyl Meccas in the world, especially for rare groove. The staff are incredibly friendly and do speak some English. Each floor is spacious, clean and encourages digging, with wall to wall vinyl records. Do yourself a favour, and check this place out!

If you are a tourist from a country where you can still find tapes in thrift stores, there is little reason to buy anything here, as the prices of anything popular will outrage you. I'm still glad I picked up a few tapes from contemporary Japanese artists that I wouldn't have found elsewhere.

There are records in better condition in Shibuya and the boxes are packed tight but you're bound to turn up gold if you've got the time to find it. Particularly good selection of funk singles.

The issue is that they know exactly what they have and so you will definitely find rare records in the bins but they are all priced on the highest end of the spectrum. Also a decent selection of cassettes and new Japanese releases. Second floor focuses on hip hop, soul, and r and b

Found an original copy of the Birds' debut album on vinyl at a reasonable price (and an original copy of Cream's Wheels of Fire for $230...). Worth a stop if you're a fan of record stores--it's not like other HMV/Tower/Sam Goody type places. Much more of a vintage store feel based on the selection available. Check out the 7-inch collection on the second floor: it's a treasure trove.
