この鳥居のある郷原は日本一の牛馬市が開かれていた大山への古道が通り、宿場となっていただけでなく、「郷原漆器」に代表されるような産業の一大拠点でもあったため、当時は非常に繁栄していたと考えられます。
お立ち寄りの際は、集落内も合わせて散策してみることをおすすめします。
