★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 縄文人骨出土遺跡として名が知られており、この遺跡の人骨と田原市の遺跡の人骨で、アイヌの人や原日本人、大和民族などの学説を立てるきっかけになった。
人骨の埋葬の仕方は土葬であったが、土器を使っての埋葬や乳幼児は壺や深鉢などに入れての埋葬もあったとある。
貝塚としても知られており、いまだに貝殻が普通にあるのは現代の貝だと思うが、貝の量が異常で、現在もここに捨てているのかと思うくらいだ。
