Amazing, authentic overnight experience at a Shigon Buddhist temple, not a tourist trap. BEAUTIFUL, quiet, temple grounds great for walking. The morning for ceremony and morning prayer (4:45am and 5:45am respectively) were very special, spiritual experiences. All the monks and staff were very nice and so gracious. The vegetarian dinner was so delicious, as was the breakfast. Rooms are modest but spacious tatami with air conditioning and a safe. Shared bathrooms (toilets) and shared baths (one gender at a time for separate times). Get there by train to Oji station and taxi (taxi about 2000 yen) or a bus that comes every few hours. Don't forget to take out cash before heading up the mountain as payment is cash only. Overall highly recommended!!

Great place to stay for about 2-3 days. Peaceful atmosphere, stunning views and nature, cozy traditional rooms and affable monks makes your journey unforgettable. Lamps at night are admirable!

A temple in the middle of the mountain. Nice and extremely friendly people. At 5 am there is a ritual called fire ritual. One of the most impressive things I've seen. Waking up that early is completely worthy. The meail is typical Japanese. Good amount, with a lot of different courses and really tasty. One of the best experiences ever.

Interesting experience I enjoyed. Received the promised Japanese Inn experience in a beautiful Buddhist setting (with excellent a/c), tatami mats, bedding on top, hot pool in basement, veggies for breakfast and 5:00 am Buddhist prayer session. I was most impressed, during the two monk morning prayer of about an hour, with the drama and the awesome drum rolls. If they do this on a daily basis even more impressive. Not my daily cup of tea but well worth a one day experience. Believe it or not the Temples icon is a large paper mache version of what sure looks like Tony the Tiger and the park below appears designed to attract children.

Utterly amazing and beautiful. The monks and staff were so friendly and spoke English which was helpful. The rooms were beautiful and the meals were delicate and carefully crafted. I can't praise this place enough!! They encourage all the guests to really get involved in the morning fire ceremony and prayer, and were so welcoming. MUST visit!!!

The welcome was great, the place so exotic and calm, perfect for meditation and a relaxing stay. The room was a typical traditional Japanese one, perfectly clean and spacious. Some kimonos are given to make you feel in the mood :) The breakfast was delicious and served in the traditional way. Toilets are shared for each floor and there's an onsen that's open for some hours for men then for women. We've experienced the dawn prayer with the monk who welcomed us (waking up at 5a.m. ?) and who speaks perfect English :)

Amazing experience. The monks were very hospitable, the temple is very beautiful, a stand out from the many temples we visited during our trip, because we didn't have to rush our time but took time to enjoy the place deeply. Early morning fire ceremony was a plus. First class cleanliness.

Unique and easily approachable buddhist temple hotel near Osaka. The monks were very hospitable and the private rooms large and clean. The food was traditional and very tasty and we got to participate to the 5.15 am fire ceremony and to observe another ritual. Place is cash only and the closest ATM is in the village nearby.
