●さすがになにも残っていなかった。史実としては存在したのだろう。でも写真を見てもわかるように、今は小さな児童公園の片隅に碑が残るのみ。説明板には「周囲の水路に遺構を見られる」というような記述があったが、相当、想像力がないと何も感じ取れない。それが現実だった。

旧平坂街道（現県道３８４）沿いの下佐脇市場の佐脇刀弥太夫の墓の説明板を読み尋ねましたが現在は下佐脇ちびっこ広場の片隅に下佐脇区の説明板と平成二十一年十月（2009.10）同区建立の石柱かあるのみで同説明板によると（略・加）鎌倉時代（1185 ～1333）に地名から名乗るったとされる佐脇氏が地頭になりから始まり時代は重なるが南北朝（1337～ 1392）以降に国人領主、室町期に室町幕府の奉行衆・三河の守へ云々と記載されており生田・奥平両氏らや戦国混乱期に今川方（今川義元）・松平方（徳川家康）により重要防備位置であったため奪取変遷し松平方の最後の城主佐脇刀弥太夫は長篠の戦に加わり討死したので以後は廃城となり江戸期以来の宅地化で水路が名残りを留めていると記載されていましたがそれを窺わせるのは脇を流れている用水路が「堀であったのだろうか？」といった様子です。見知らぬ者がうろついているので向かいのカワイイ番犬がなだめても此方を一切向かず職務励行していました。
