★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 新坂ともいいます。この坂上の台地にあった旧福山藩主の阿部屋敷に通じる、新しく開かれた坂ということで、この名がつけられました。
坂の上一帯は、学者町といわれ、夏目漱石はじめ多くの文人が住んでいました。西側の崖下一帯が、旧丸山福山町で、樋口一葉の終焉の地です。
明治になってから開かれた新坂のようですが、明治地図を見ると、当時の坂は、いまの坂下側がありません。戦前の昭和地図を見ると、現在と同じ道筋となっているので、現在の坂下側は、この間に開かれたのでしょう。
Also called Shinzaka. This name was given because it is a newly opened slope that leads to the former Fukuyama feudal lord Amuro Shiki on the plateau on this slope.
The area around Sakagami is said to be a scholarly town, and many writers including Soseki Natsume lived there. The area under the cliff on the west side is the former Maruyama Fukuyama Town, the place of the end of Higuchi Ichiyo.
It looks like a new slope that was opened after the Meiji era, but when you look at the Meiji map, the slope at that time does not have the current slope. Looking at the Showa map before the war, the route is the same as it is now, so the current Sakashita side may have been opened during this time.
