West of this monument is Honjuku Village. It is known that there is Hozo-ji Temple where Ieyasu Tokugawa spent his childhood days. In 2001, Tokaido was established by Tokugawa Ieyasu as a highway, and it was the 400th year since the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and local governments started the "Tokaido Renaissance" maintenance project. This monument was made as part of that. If you look closely at the monument, you can see the "Tokaido Renaissance" logo.
森	森昭二 on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ こちらに「是より西本宿村」と「本宿の歴史と文化をたずねて」という二つの案内看板がありますが、二つとも内容が簡潔で分かりやすく良いですね。ここ本宿は赤坂宿と藤川宿の中間にあった町です。所謂東海道五十三次の宿場町ではありませんが、江戸時代には結構栄えていたようです。今でもよく見ると、町家を思わせる古い家やかつての東海道を彷彿とさせる松並木がわずかですが残っています。家康ゆかりの法蔵寺というお寺があり、新選組の近藤勇の首塚があり、かつての代官屋敷をリニューアルしたイタリアンのレストランありと小さいですがとても興味深い町です。 There are two signboards here, "Keiyori Nishi Motojuku Village" and "Ask about the history and culture of Motojuku", both of which are simple and easy to understand.
