見月山（1046.9m）と二王山（1208.1m）を結ぶ稜線上にある山で，２つの山のほぼ中間に位置します．
山頂付近からは，二王山・二王峠方面，見月山・三星峠方面，上渡・有東木方面に道が３分岐しています．
三叉路の脇にあるやや狭い感じのする山頂には，山名標柱や三等三角点標石「八森」がありますが，杉等の樹木と笹に囲まれているため，展望は有りません．
なお，二王山にある市岳連の注意看板には，「二王峠より見月山間の登山道は整備されておりません」とあり，二王峠↔八森山↔三星峠↔見月山の尾根道を歩く場合は十分な注意が必要です．

From the vicinity of the summit, there are three branches in the direction of Mt. Nio / Nio Pass, Mt. Gassan / Samsung Pass, and Kamiwatari / Utogi.
At the top of the mountain, which feels a little narrow on the side of the three-way junction, there is a mountain name pillar and a third-class triangulation stone "Hachimori", but there is no prospect because it is surrounded by trees such as cedar and bamboo grass.
In addition, the caution sign of the Ichidakeren on Mt. Niou says, "The mountain trail between Mt. Mitsuki is not maintained from Niou Pass", and Niou Pass ↔ Mt. Yamori ↔ Samsung Pass ↔ Mitsuki You need to be careful when walking along the mountain ridge.
