★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 日野市には多摩川、浅川から取り入れた用水路が網の目のように張り巡されています。その水は田を潤し続けてきました。向島用水路もその一つです。周辺が宅地化するに従って、田も減り、なによりも水源であった川が汚れてしまったため、次第に本来の役割を失って、排水路化してしまいました。
「何とかしなくては」という思いで、再生が始まり、それは今も続いています。流れを潤徳小学校の敷地に引き入れ、ビオトープを作り、子どもたちはここで水と自然との関わりを学んでいます。
