広大な砂利敷き駐車場です。こちらからの磴道(とうどう)～仁王門のアクセスが本来の参詣ルートと言えますが、長い階段があるため難関です。磴道(とうどう)は文政4(1821)年より1年2ヶ月の歳月を費して完成した大石段で145段あります。この石段は俗に厄除けの石段といい、一段一段登るごとに『南無観世音菩薩』と称号を唱えて登れば、145段を登りつめた時、厄が落ちるといわれています。石段の両側には10種3000株のアジサイが植えられており、梅雨時には新緑に映えて咲き乱れ参詣する人々を迎えます。仁王門は建長6(1254)年、宗尊親王の建立した門で、鎌倉時代の仏師康慶の彫刻した仁王尊を祠っています。門周囲の彫刻は、宝永(1704)年中無関堂円哲が彫刻したもので、天和2(1628)年に十四世堯長が再建、茨城県文化財に指定されています。

Niomon is a gate built in 1254 by the founder of the Buddhist sect of Buddhist monks. The sculpture around the gate was sculptured by Ensetsu Nakaseki in Hoei (1704), and was reconstructed by Chosei XIV in 1628 and designated as a cultural asset of Ibaraki Prefecture.
