★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 一般に観音堂は南向きに建てられるが、長野の善光寺の南向きに対し上田市別所温泉にある常楽寺「北向観音」は善光寺と向き合っているためこの両方をお参りしなければ「片参り」となると言われています。北向きの意味は、これは観音様が「北斗星が世界の、よりどころとなるよう我も又一切民衆のよりどころとなって済度をなさん」という、お告げによるものとされています。
