Even though they only let a limited number of people in every 15 minutes, the building is still too crowded inside, especially the visa extension counter. Apart from that, the employees have always been very friendly to me and processing of my documents was done quickly.

Went to renew visa today. Arrived by 8.45am. Lined up after getting ticket to go in. Got in at 9.14am. Go to 2nd floor, there are signboards to guide you. Reception was fast and finished by 10am. As of now no booking is required to visit the center.

There is too much people so you need to goo really early or you’re be needing to wait more than an hour. But if you come with a small child you can skip most of the line.

Regarding the RE-ISSUANCE for a lost residence card. I went at 8.50AM on Tuesday. It takes 1 hour to issue a new residence card(with all the paperwork). They are very fast. Go for the D2 and take a number. Required documents are 1. Police report 2. Photo(4 x 3) 3. Passport

Residence Card Renewal experience. Arrived at noon, there was a line outside and they were issuing hourly tickets to control the number of visitors entering due to covid19 precautions. Windows D2 and D3. Very professional and speedy veterans processing the residency application forms. 12:01pm Got my ticket #348 from the push button device. (Currently handling #338) 12:20pm My number was called, paperwork handed in and approved. Gentleman informed me when my card was ready it would be issued at Window D1. 12:20pm At Window D1 #298 was being handled... so 50 people ahead of me. 14:10pm My number #358 was called and got my new card. I noticed things slow down during 12-1pm. All Japanese companies take lunch during this time and seems there are fewer employees on hand. Suggest going exactly at 1pm when everyone is back from lunch. Very comfy spacious seating area with NHK playing on TV.

Actually the place isn’t too bad. If you don’t have an appointment, you can show up at anytime and they’ll give you a time slot to come in. Once inside it is all about going from Station to Station presenting your documents. If you come early you’ll probably won’t take more than 90 minutes. And the personnel is nice.

If you come here for re-entry permit, you're in luck. Or at least you're in luck when the officer at D3 desk (where they receive re-entry applications) is the old lady that worked there today. She was really accommodating when I said I couldn't speak Japanese and was comfortable communicating in English. The whole process took about 30 minutes from when I entered the building until I left, much of which is the waiting time for the permit to be issued. One suggestion for the Tokyo Regional Immigration Services Bureau to improve your efficiency is to have an online reservation system with shorter time slots depending on the process, for example changing visa type is 30m while changing some other info is 15m. I saw lots of people came very early in the morning queueing for hours to get in, then wait around 30m more until their turn for a procedure that takes 5 minutes (not including waiting time). With online reservation people don't have to wait much and the officers may be able to process more applications.
