青梅市駒木野(現 駒木町)には、昔の鎌倉街道が通っている。人家から一キロほど離れた山の中のその道端に、巨大な自然石がある。部落の人は、これを蒟蒻石 (こんにゃくいし)と呼んでおり、また、そのあたりを、こんにゃく峠と呼んでいる。
むかし、一人の武士が、領主から命ぜられて、領地から取り立てた年貢を馬の背に乗せ、ここまで来かかった。巨石の辺まで来たとき、それまで手綱を執っていた馬子が、突然馬を走らせて、あっという間に逃亡してしまった。武士は後を追いかけたがまに合わなかった。大切な年貢を盗られた武士は、領主への申し訳に、石の傍らで切腹して、果てた。そのときの、武士の怒念が残ったのかどうか、道端の巨石に妙な噂が立った。
あの石はよう、昼間見るときは、ふつうの石と何の変りもなくて、こちこちと固いけんどよう。 夜中の丑満時(うしみつどき)になると、こんにゃくみてえにぶよぶよになってな、藁ミゴ(稲の穂の籾をとったあとのもの)なんかでも平気ですいすい通すことができるだと。
もう一つ。 夜中に、あの道を通ったお武士があってな、その武士が、腰の刀を抜いてあの石に突き立てたらよう、まるで、こんにゃくに刀を刺したように石のうらまで打ちぬいてしまった、だと。
こんにやく石とこんにゃく峠の、命名の由来、よって件のごとし。

Konjac stone from Komagino
駒 The old Kamakura Highway runs through Komagino, Ome City (now Komagaki Town). There is a huge natural stone on the roadside in a mountain about a kilometer away from the house. The people of the Buraku call this konnyaku stone, and the area around it is called konnyaku pass.
Once upon a time, a samurai, ordered by the lord, put his tribute from the territory on the horse's back and came to this point. When he reached the side of the megalith, Uma, who had previously held the reins, suddenly ran a horse and fled in a flash. The warrior chased after, but didn't like it. The samurai, whose important tribute was stolen, died in excuses to the lord and was cut off beside the stone. A strange rumor stood on the roadside megalith whether the samurai's resentment remained.
Pia stones, when you look at them in the daytime, they are no different from ordinary stones. When it is midnight in the midst of Ushimitsu, it is possible to pass through straw migo (after removing the ears of rice) without konnyaku, so that it can pass through smoothly. .
