A guide (Self-Defense Forces OB?) Will guide you free of charge. There are various detailed precautions such as punctuality during the tour, prohibition of shorts tank top sandals, and hat removal at the museum. The explanation with the guide's joke is interesting. The most personal highlight is the museum. The suicide notes of the kamikaze members and the relics of successive admirals are narrow. A lot of overwhelming materials. You can see the museum freely. I wish I had a little more time. You can get a glimpse of the Navy's character in the guide's actions and the rules in the tour course. It is a pity that the tour time does not match well with the bus and ship. It seems that 50 or 100 people will participate when there are many people, but I'm sure they won't come by boat or bus. (Visit July 2018)

It is a traditional facility used as the Imperial Japanese Navy School before the war and as a candidate school for executives of the Maritime Self-Defense Force. It was a very valuable time to accompany me for about an hour and a half. There is a museum where you can learn about the history of the Navy from the end of the Edo period. It's very nice, but it's a very quick look on the time schedule. You can see valuable materials such as Katsu Kaishu's autograph, Ryoma Sakamoto's photo, and Heihachiro Togo's hair.

Maritime Self-Defense Force 1st School of Technology You will be surprised by the heavy building. If you are an individual, you can make a reservation without making a reservation. However, the time is fixed, and if you go to the waiting area at that time, the SDF OB? Will guide you through the facility for 1.5 hours. Although photography is possible under certain restrictions, it is a SDF school, so you cannot walk around freely. The outline of this facility is as follows. In the Meiji era, the Naval Training Center established in Tsukiji, Tokyo was renamed the Naval Academy, and moved to Etajima in Meiji 21. A few years later, a red brick building is completed. Since then, it has been developed along with the expansion of armaments, and has built its history and tradition as a place for training officers for 57 years until it was closed at the end of the war. After the end of the war, the U.S. forces and others were stationed and using the facilities, but they were returned in 1951. In 1957, the Maritime Self-Defense Force executive candidate school opened and the Maritime Self-Defense Force No. 1 Technical School was established. My biggest question was why the military school was chosen as the current location, but the main reasons were that there was a cove where warships could be anchored and the environment that was isolated from civilization and could be dedicated to education. It is like. (Isn't Tokyo a good place to educate because there are so many places to play?)

It was December 2014 when I visited the 1st Service School of the Maritime Self-Defense Force, which I had always wanted to visit. Ryotaro Shiba's original "Clouds on the Slope" was broadcast as a drama on NHK for three years, and the large auditorium of the Maritime Self-Defense Force 1st Service School was used as the shooting location, and I wanted to see it with my own eyes. is. A free tour was carried out by the Maritime Self-Defense Force OB to guide you around the school, and it was very popular as a tourist destination, but unfortunately all tours have been canceled at the moment of the Corona disaster.

You have to attend a tour to sight see around the school. There are impressive arhitectures, inspired from British architects, used to this day. Unfortunately, the guide will only be in English and area where you can visit will be strictly limited but you will able to feel and learn how Japanese marine army changed before, during and after WWII. Make sure to check schedule of the tour, usually only held twice a day. Regustration is needed, 5~30min before the tour.

This place is a facility of JMSDF. They have a long history so it is a kind of tourist place now. You can visit here on weekdays and they give group tours here. You have to check the time schedule. You can see the old buildings from outside because it’s still the school for JMSDF officer candidates so you cannot get in the school. You can get in they museum here. The guide take you to the museum and give you a time to see around. There are various exhibitions about Japanese imperial navy. They are all various stuffs. You can buy some souvenirs at the store close to the gate!! You can enjoy and study here!! Enjoy!!
