以前は、南側にあった新潟鉄工所へ続く専用線があって、工場で製造された車両の搬出に使用されていたそうです。同工場が移転したことで1998年に専用線は廃止され、この駅も2002年で休止となり、以来、貨物列車の発着は無くなっています。 焼島駅～東新潟港駅間にはまだ線路が存在しているので、いつか旅客駅として復活する日が来ないものかと淡い期待をしております。
この辺りは、新潟鉄工所の跡地に大きな団地ができているので、乗降客数は期待できるのではないでしょうか。。
Higashi Niigata Port Station is a freight station that has already been abolished.
Previously, there was a dedicated line leading to Niigata Engineering Co., Ltd. on the south side, and it was used to carry out vehicles manufactured at the factory. Due to the relocation of the factory, the leased line was abolished in 1998, and this station was also suspended in 2002, and freight trains have not arrived or departed since then. There is still a railroad track between Yakejima Station and Higashi Niigata Port Station, so I'm hoping that the day will come when it will be revived as a passenger station.
In this area, there is a large housing complex on the site of the Niigata Engineering Co., Ltd., so the number of passengers can be expected. ..
