★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Visited this location tonight, don't know what we did to offend or if the owner was already unhappy, but environment was hostile from the moment we arrived, ended up moving to another place nearby and have a great meal there.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great place to have monjayaki! The owner tends to be sarcastic and jokes alot, try not to take him seriously. He also teaches you how to make monjayaki traditionally. Overall great food and service!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Must try for an authentic 'shitamachi' experience. Gen-san speaks English, and serves not only okonomiyaki but also monjayaki, a dish originating from this part of Tokyo. Also check out the dagashi store in the front on the way out, old-fashioned Japanese penny candy. Try the mentai yakisoba, sauteed noodles with spicy cod roe, scallops, and scallions. A short walk from Ryogoku station, the sumo stadium and Edo-Tokyo museum.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I would not recommend this restaurant for foreigners.. I went there tonight because I saw that an english menu was available and as it was my first day in Japan, I'm not used to Japanese langage yet.. I felt terrible when the owner made me feel guilty of not being able to understand Japanese, even more terrible because I'm traveling alone and entering a restaurant alone in a foreign city while I'm already suffering of social anxiety is a very big deal.. so hostility didn't help..
I just ate a fish because they told me there was no more rice, it was good but a bit bittered by the atmosphere around me.
To the owner.. please try to show some empathy next time a stranger come to your restaurant ?? Or just don't put the english menu/translations if you don't want to see us, I would have understood better.
In the end the owner don't seem to be a bad person, I think for non-foreigners it is a good place to go to.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I like it here! First, the owner speaks english no language barrier in thia part of the street. Very accommodating and friendly guy.. as what my daughtet said he looks like Jackie Chan.
