Our first experience with our neighbour obanzai kushiage-style dinner, Japanese “satay celup”, within an izakaya with friendly host. Skewer into a thick and rich tasty sauce full of umami.
Muro-san, an upbeat host, waiter, bartender, chef and manager, anxiously look at our face expression to see how good or bad the kushiage could be. It’s such a big relief to him when the Little Boy says “oishi, good good, can we come back again tomorrow?”
Nice countertop bar with huge selection of beer, wine and whisky. After a pint or 2 on-the-rock whisky, I wouldn’t be tired talking to him all night long, his English is real good.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very good place for a bite to eat! Had an assortment of skewers (not all pictured here). My favourite was definitely the rice cake! English speakers need not worry. Host/server is very kind. I highly recommend this place!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great sake, amazing skewers, fantastic staff! Happened to wander in for dinner and ended up spending two hours over sake and skewers. Super friendly staff who helped pick some delicious sake. The sweet sake pudding is a hidden gem!

The owner and the chef are really really kind and smiling !! Top place to spend some time for drink a cocktail or beer or even to have a dinner with some different little dishes.
We have tried almost everything … sashimi super fresh, the specialty of the house ( some kind of skewers) omelette SPETTACULRIS , also little stew clams … and much more!!

Dish are smalls but it’s what you expect from a kushiage, so I dont understand why some people are giving bad review about it...
So dont go there if you expect a huge plate.
I will go back next time I come to Kyoto!
