★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wife and I stumbled across this temple by accident but loved it. Much quieter than many of the others. Beautiful, serene little garden you can walk around by yourself. Fun hike to the top for some interesting grave sites. We were happy we found this place.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Serene gardens with a chance to explore grave sites up in dense forest hills. You can find a beautiful view of Kyoto as you zig and zag the small paths. The temple features are quite exquisite yet humble, perfect for the setting. You have to pay a small fee (500 yen) to enter, which seems to scare off enough tourists, so you may have the opportunity to explore the grounds without running into anyone else (which can be a relief if you've visited some of the more popular temples).

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The stone steps up to the temple are overgrown with moss and give off a feeling of being very old. There is definitely something special about this place. I found two tiny animals very close to each other and both did not run away but interacted with me. A different kind of magic!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Perfectly serene and far enough off the tourist track to be unspoilt. Magnificent cemetery and perfectly tended grounds. We visited as the sun dipped towards the horizon and the warm illumination was splendid.
